How can I set a resolution when stqatus is canceled?

Oscar Leonardo Rojas Garcia October 21, 2024

it's been very frustrating to modify the workflow in jira for a project to make not only the done status generates a resolution, but also cancelled status for a a project, I see tutorials and everybody talks about post functions, something I can't see when I edit the workflow, The only option I see is add transtiions and 'rules'. I set cancelled as a (done) status (green hightlighted), and set a rule to change from all other status to cancelled and affect end date, but it's not working. When I use the jira API REST to bring that data, the problem continues, only done tickets shows a resolution date, cancelled shows 'none'

Hi @Oscar Leonardo Rojas Garcia ,

In company managed projects postfunctions are set on transitions (not statuses):

- in diagram view editor -> click on arrow transition, then in the modal on top right you will see postfunctions
postfunctions.png

- in text view editor -> click on the name of transition, then find postfunctions tab

For team managed projects there are 'rules'. which allows to set some field values but ... resolution field is not supported. Check this https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/set-resolution-field-for-team-managed-project-jira-issues-1236437014.html

(You can vote on linked tickets)

Great @Lucas Modzelewski _Lumo_ .  You are confirming that I'm on the right path to solve it. I'm using rules now, but one more thing I would like to know is if it works retroactively, I mean, if a ticket was set as cancelled before setting this rule, is it going to work to show a close (resolution_date) or only from now on?. Thanks a lot!

Only from now on (e.g. if it's already in done and change is set on transition to done - why should it trigger ;) )

In company managed workflows you can also create global loops - that's pretty powerful and can do things which are not available in bulk editions, more on that you can find here: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-articles/How-to-create-global-looping-transitions-in-a-Jira-workflow/ba-p/1135968

Hello @Oscar Leonardo Rojas Garcia

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

What type of project are you using? Get that information from the View All Projects page under the Projects menu.

There are Company Managed projects and Team Managed projects. The method to change the workflow is different between these projects types.

other projects fomr the company brings the close date properly when we talk about cancelled issued. The only difference I see in the projects view is that those that work fine are marked as Balance Sheet Lending. All of them are software managed by the team.  Thank you!!
