How can I limit effectively the Work in Progress in Kanban?

In JIRA for Kanban boards we have the option to put warnings if in some column we exceded the number of cards, it is marked in yellow or red color... But is just a visual warning... My question is if we have some options to limit to put more cards in some columns, to make effectively the WIP and to avoid that the team takes more work that they can really do.

You cannot set some limit for ticket count in Kanban column at the moment.
Here is a feature request from 2011 - https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWSERVER-3681
