I am a big fan of the Timeline view, however, the Timeline objects are hard to distinguish from another with respect to category, labels, etc. I want to gather at a glance what I'm dealing with for the coming weeks, and if I cannot even colorize the tasks, then how in world am I supposed to know what's coming without diving into the details?

Hey Lasse,

Hopefully the below tips help:

  • On the epics themselves (Epics only) you can choose the colour they appear on the Timeline, when you open the Epic you can see a coloured square next to the Summary, click this and choose your colour!

  • You can also add custom filters by going to the Configure Board section (through the ...) and creating JQL filters with descriptive names that you can quickly apply to your timeline.
    • These custom filters will need the data on the epics or stories, so make sure you use the data fields you wish (Components, Labels, etc.), an example for each of these:
    • labels IN ("Label 1", "Label 2")
    • component = "Super Cool App"
  • If you use Jira Premium you'll have the "Plans" feature too - this can have even more power by visualising these custom fields right on the timeline between the Epic Name and the timeline visual

Hope it helps!
