How can I export tasks in Jira with their attachments?

I would like to export the results of an issue filter to a partner that does not have access to our internal Jira installation. Many of the issues have graphical attachments representing screen shots of the issues and I would like to export them with the issue list.

Currently the Word export shows the attachment filenames, but does not embed or link to the attachments themselves. I'm not fussy what the export format is, so how can I export issues with image attachments included?

Use the PDF View Plugin. The PDF file format has the ability both to display images (obviously) and to embed any type of binary attachment (lesser known)!

With the aforementioned plugin, images can be either:

  1. directly displayed in the issue description (if you use a wiki type renderer field)
  2. displayed as thumbnails in the attachment list
  3. embedded in their original resolution in the PDF file. Adobe Reader and any modern PDF client app then allows opening them or even saving them from the PDF.

On the top that, not only images, but any JIRA attachments can be embedded in the PDF files to build a 100% self containing issue snapshot.

Read the "embedding attachments" HOWTO and see this screenshot how it looks in Reader:

Hi there,

With JExcel PRO you can export your issues to Excel (or HTML) with the images, comments and attachments.

Feel free to try it:

Hi Mark,

You can convert the Word/Excel export into PDF. That should retain the images.

The Word export does not contain any images to preserve, it only contains a link to where the image is stored. Unfortunately this is no good as it requires access to our Jira instance.
