How can I automatically update the Resolution to "Done" when the Status is "Done"?

I am a newbie at this... we have a Jira project for updating documentation. There are over 300 tickets with the Status of "Done", but the Resolution was not updated to "Done" so they still display in the Open Issues list.

How can I automatically update the Resolution to "Done" when the Status is "Done"?

Thanks!

@D Hicks The easiest way to do this would be to update your workflow so when an issue is transitioned to done the resolution is also set to done.  If your workflow allows issues to be reopened you will need to clear the resolution if this is not already occurring.  You would set the resolution using a post function, specifically Update Issue Field.

On the Project settings page in the Workflows section the scheme is:

ID: Task Management Workflow Scheme.

Is it a workflow that comes with Jira? To do > In Progress > Done

I asked a support person to hep since I don't have permission to edit it and they said it was used in a second project and they didn't want to change it since they didn't know if the change would also be applied to the other project.

Q1: If changed in this project will it change in the other project? I wouldn't thinks so, but, you never know.

Q2: As I said before I am a newbie, can you provide more specific instructions per the information above.

A1: Company Managed projects can share configuration elements. Your support person has indicate that the element/workflow that needs to be changed is shared. If that workflow is change it will indeed affect all the projects that use it.

Hello @D Hicks

Are you working with issues in a Company Managed project or a Team Managed project? That information will show at the bottom of the navigation pane on the left when you are viewing the project.

Are you working with a Software project, a Service project, or a Work Management project? In the navigation pane on the left, at the top below the Project Name you may see either Software or Service. If you don't see either and you do see navigation options displayed horizontally (like List, Board, Calendar, Timeline) then you are working with a Work Management project.

@Brant Schroeder 's answer applies to Company Managed Software and Service projects.

What I see is in the left vertical navigation is:

[name of the project]

Backlog

Reports

Issues

Components

Timesheet
