Our team is having difficulty hiring an Atlassian developer. We are considering suggesting the hiring of a developer with experience in other programming languages, even if they are not specifically an Atlassian developer. If this approach is feasible, would a Java developer be the closest fit?
Hi @Nathalia Morales ! Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
It will probably depend on what platform (Data Center or Cloud) you are developing the Jira app for.
If the target is Data Center, you will probably rely on the Java API available for Data Center.
Cloud offers two environments, Connect and Forge. Connect is based on Java but Atlassian is pushing everyone toward Forge, which uses NodeJS (so JavaScript or Typescript).
Hope this helps.
@Robert Wen_Cprime_ Note that Connect does not require Java! Java is a popular option, but many build Connect apps with Node, for example.
In fact, the beauty in Connect is the fact that you can use any programming language or stack (until it can communicate with HTTP, supports web apps, etc.).

Hi @Nathalia Morales ,
Do you mean hiring an Administrator of Atlassian applications? I believe this other post can be useful: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jobs-Careers-questions/What-sort-of-scripting-should-I-know/qaq-p/2040885

Hello, @Carlos Garcia Navarro
We tried sending an administrator profile but, the client does not want such profiles. Hiring manager is looking to hire someone who can design and develop product add-ons, deploy and manage complex Atlassian and ancillary product implementations. I'm not sure if our suggestion is even valid but, I am trying my luck here.
Client is an Atlassian partner and has top clients, too.

I’d typically look for experience in Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, and/or Python, but experience with other languages could also be relevant. Do you know if the hiring manager has any specific language preferences or requirements for candidates?

In the job description, the hiring manager included Java, Python, Node.JS, Javascript and Postgresql as nice to have skills.
One of our candidates mentioned that Atlassian developers are very rare here in the Philippines so we are trying our luck to discuss this option to the client.

Had another conversation with the hiring manager but, he's really firm with his initial requirements. Thanks for replying anyway! Learned a lot.
