Hi All, how can I add an email chain as an attachment to a Jira Ticket, which helps the active participants and watchers of the ticket, please help.
Hi @Prashanth Sripuram ,
Yes, you can attach an email chain to a Jira ticket. Here are some ways to do it:
Manual Attachment:
You can download the email chain as an .eml
or .msg
file from your email client (e.g., Outlook, Gmail) and then manually upload it as an attachment to the Jira ticket.
Forwarding Emails to Jira:
If your Jira instance is configured to accept emails, you can forward the entire email chain to the Jira email address associated with the project. The forwarded email will be automatically added as a comment or as a new ticket, depending on your Jira configuration.
Add-on/Plugin Integration:
There are Jira plugins like Jira Email This Issue or Jira Email Handler that enhance email management within Jira. These plugins allow you to attach emails to existing tickets, convert emails into tickets, and manage email chains directly within Jira.
Email to Ticket Feature:
If your Jira setup includes a feature that allows creating tickets via email, the entire email thread can be captured as the description or comment of the new ticket. The email chain will be recorded in the ticket's activity log.
Using Automation:
Jira Automation can be set up to capture email attachments and add them to the appropriate ticket. This requires some configuration, but it can streamline the process, especially in environments where emails are frequently related to tickets.
6. Custom developed Plugin:
With the help of Custom developed plugin also we can track our email activities, it has been automotive process.
I hope this helps to you!
Thanks,

Hi @Prashanth Sripuram ,
If you're using Outlook, you can work with a third-party integration from the Atlassian Marketplace to integrate Outlook email and Jira.
You can associate emails and ongoing email conversations with a Jira issue. You can send and reply to conversations via email from Jira. Users in Jira can see and participate in the conversation.
I work for yasoon and we're developing the mentioned Microsoft 365 for Jira app.
Here's an overview of the Outlook features in Jira: https://youtu.be/PbRmLW21xa0
Hope this helps. Best,
Britta

There are a few ways to add an email chain as an attachment to a Jira ticket, which can help keep all participants and watchers informed:
Export the Email Chain as a File
• Most email clients allow you to export an email chain as a file, which you can then attach to your Jira ticket.
• Once you’ve exported the email, simply drag and drop the file into the Jira issue, or use the “Attach” button within the ticket to upload the file.
Here’s how you can do it with some popular email clients:
Enable Jira to Create Issues from Emails
Another option is to configure Jira to create issues directly from emails. You can forward the email chain to your Jira instance, and it will automatically create a ticket with the email content included. If you go this route, make sure your Jira project is configured to accept emails and create issues from them.
For more information, check out: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/configure-email-to-create-issues-or-comments/
These methods should help you keep the entire email conversation attached to your Jira ticket. If you need more detailed instructions or have any other questions, feel free to ask!
Please let me know if that helps!
Best regards,
Pears
