GitHub Pull Requests-> Jira Story Integration

Osmani Sanchez June 20, 2022

The goal right now is essentially

When GitHub Pull Request opens from develop -> master, then auto-create a Jira story under xyz board with full description. The description should get pulled from GH PR. (possibly a webhook?)

We have certain users who should not have access to the source code, but I would still like for them to see Change Logs so they are aware of when certain feature requests get merged to master.

Hi @Osmani Sanchez

This is Majid @ Exalate.

If you are open you using a third party app, I believe Exalate would be an ideal fit. Exalate is a synchronization app which can sync your pull requests and issues from Github to Jira issues (story, epic, etc.). You can fully customize the synchronization rules to suit your business needs and you should be able to set up the connection in less than 5 mins!

Please feel free to book a demo if you would like to see the product in action.

Thanks

Majid

Hi @Osmani Sanchez and welcome to the community,

wouldn‘t it be sufficient to use the built in „development information“ functionality? you could use commits to link stories to your repository and sutomatically see information to commits, pull requests, merge in the real implementation story. This won‘t show or give any access to source code but just show the informstion in an issue.

Best
Stefan

Hey Stefan,

I currently have this setup but I don't think it provides enough information

What I'm hoping to accomplish is a full GitHub description gets extracted and posted to a Jira story upon pull request creation from develop -> master . The development information functionality only shows a summary with a hyperlink to GitHub.

I see. is there a functionality to do this within github? Might be possible to grab this with a webrequest then within the automation rule.

Hi @Osmani Sanchez . May I ask if you're open to using an external tool to make the integration? If yes, then I'd like to propose a tool that might help you with your use case - pull requests from Github and create Jira story. It's a connector, called ZigiOps. It's easy to use and can be customized to fit different use cases. ZigiOps also establishes a bi-direction connection between the integrated systems. Feel free to take a look at it and book a demo, in case you want to see in action.
