Export filter query with only 'my columns'

Jonathan Butchard February 27, 2024

I have been using the old issue view in Jira Cloud to export a CSV containing the results of my filter query with only my headers. Until recently, some filter options were not available in the new issue view, so I had always used the old issue view to set up my query.

Jira Cloud seems to have been updated to capture all filter options. The old issue view is no longer available, and my access to export a CSV with my columns only has disappeared. In the new issue view, I have to export all columns.

Is there a way in the new issue view to export a CSV with only my columns, or is there a way for me to access the old issue view?

Hi @Jonathan Butchard

This can still be done

If you search for issues you can select the export option and choose Export with my details, this is the same as the old my columns option.

I do agree, that this option is not available, when using the default filters on the issues option in the project, then only the al fields option is there.

The option do do this from a project has been declined, see JSWCLOUD-20783

Thanks for the reply. In my Jira application, the option is not there:

@Jonathan Butchard Note that this is not the same screen!

This screen called the "Issue Navigator" has two implementations, and "old" one and a "new" one. You are already seeing the new one, because it is being gradually rolled out to Jira Cloud sites and this one is missing that export capability.

In contrary, @Marc - Devoteam's screenshot shows the old one. You can see little nuance differences on the buttons and such. The old one had that capability.

Our team develops the Better Excel Exporter app that can export "current columns" and many other scenarios from both the old and new screens! You may want to give this a try.

Hi @Aron Gombas _Midori_

As I mentioned, Yes your statement is true based on accessing the issue navigator in a project, than you don't have the option to export current fields.

But if you use the search issue function from the main toolbar and search your issues, the option is still there.

So you are not completely correct.

For now, I have found a workaround:

  • Go to Issue Navigator in list view
  • Set filter criteria and generate table
  • Copy the table presented on the screen
  • In Excel, open a new worksheet and choose Match Destination Formatting when right-clicking to paste

Hi @Jonathan Butchard I just find you can still go back the old issue navigator : 2024-03-04_173258.png

I don't know how long it will be there but for now it is available.

Hi @Jonathan Butchard,

just to take a step back: Exporting isn't exactly Jira's greatest strength, and therefore many apps from the Atlassian Marketplace operate in this space. If exporting is something you do regularly and/or have more sophisticated requirements, I'd definitely check out some of the available options. Better Excel Exporter has been mentioned and is great; I myself also work on a tool that doesn't quite focus on exporting, but does great exports, too

You may already know that you can trial any app for free for 1 month, and depending on the size of your size, it may be free forever. So if an app is an option for your, perhaps try a few and see which works best for you.

Best,

Hannes
