Export a project from one on demand instance and import into another OnDemand

Mark Stewart December 8, 2014

Hi,

We have a vendor who has set up our development project on their onDemand instance of Jira.  We'd like to pull this project out of that instance, and load into our own.  Is this possible?  If so, what are the specific steps to achieve this?

Note that our vendor has a number of projects for other clients on the same instance.  I'm not sure how they'd feel if we needed to do a "full export" in order to import a single project.

There are also some knowledge articles in confluence, so we'd ideally like to migrate these across too.

Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,

They can provide you an CSV file of your issues, however, this will not bring the history of the issues, or the comments.

As an alternative, they can do is perform a full export of their instance, import into a test instance, and remove all the projects from the other clients. Then, they need to export this instance again and provide you the file.

If you new instance doesn't have any data on it, you can just import this backup there. However, if you already have data in your instance that you want to keep, you need to merge the instances.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Clarissa.

So the short answer is it's not possible.....

The full import workaround is messy and relies on added infrastructure which we don't have....nor the skillset available (hence why we had gone the cloud option!)

Thanks for the suggestions though!
