You can customize emails for Jira by changing code like Nic mentioned, or you can use a third party app that does this. We make https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1211069/notification-assistant-for-jira-email?hosting=datacenter&tab=overview to help with this.

Email templates for most of Jira are in the code.  The exception is Service Desk mails, which are configured in the Service Desk settings.

@Nic Brough -Adaptavist- any difference between the email configuration format of the emails of previous versions and of version 8.5.4?
