I've created a handful of custom fields for a form and would like to add more choices in the dropdown menu than the set I initially populated. I cannot find a way to access this. There are many posts & help topics on editing the forms & creating the new fields initially, but I have not found a way to update the custom fields themselves after they have been added to a form.
They do not populate on the list shown when selecting Settings / Issues / Edit Custom Fields but do appear on the form & in the project when an issue is created, and I can create workflow rules for them, so they are functioning and active.
Is there any way to go back in to adjust these once added to a form, or is the only way to make a change to delete them altogether and start over with a new custom field containing the list items I now want to include?
Hi RLB,
It's probably because the form field is mapped to a Jira custom field. Which means that you have to add the values in the Custom field. You must be a Jira Admin to be able to do that.
Go to Settings > Issues > Custom Fields and search for your field.
Click the 3 dots menu to the right and select Default value and Contexts. There you can add the additional options.
Hi John, thank you for replying - understand exactly what you're suggesting here but unfortunately for some reason my custom fields are not populated in the "custom fields" menu as I would have expected to find them. I've attached screenshots -- for example, one of my custom fields is called "Issue Type" and this is not returning any results in the custom fields library. Any ideas on why this might be happening or a back door around it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again

Hi @Robert Burke , first I would strongly suggest not naming custom fields reusing system field names , e.g . Issue type. With that said are you sure you created a Custom field? If you had it should show up there. Is it possible that your "Issue type" is simply a form field? Could you show a screen shot with the right sidebar displayed showing the definition of "Issue type"?

Hi @Jack Brickey-- thanks. Funnily enough one of the reasons I want to edit the field is to avoid reusing system field names as you suggest! And yes it's almost certainly the case I'm describing would be more accurately called a form field (menu says "drag fields to build your custom form" so in my mind that was a custom field) -- if that's the case, how can I go back in and edit the form field once it's been added to a form? I'd like to leave the existing list of drop down options in place but while adding more choices as well as re-titling the name.

@Robert Burke , so for sure this is a form field and not a custom field. To edit any form field simply edit the form and select the field to be edited. You should see on the right hand side bar, the definition of your form Field,. At the very top is the name if you click into the name, you can edit the name you can also edit other characteristics of that form filled. If you are not seeing this please do share a screenshot of exactly what you say when you click on the specific field of interest.

@Jack Brickey I'm following you but there are some discrepancies -- I can re-title the form field but it maintains the previous name in lighter gray text next to the adjusted name, and when removed to the field menu by dragging and dropping it reverts to its old name. See first screenshot (renamed category is "type of update requested").
I cannot identify a way to actually change/add to the drop-down fields -- clicking on the item only lets me add a condition or add/remove it from the form. This is probably my own fault for moving ahead with the categories not finalized but I expected it would be really easy to go back in and adjust them post-build, because most other things I've seen in Jira don't display this oddly obscured behavior

ok....so my bad! :-(
my mind was going to "Advanced Forms". Ugh, too many variations of the same feature. I have not played with "JWM forms" sufficiently to answer your question. If I get a chance today I will play with it and get back to you. Very sorry for the misleading info here. Maybe @John Funk can reengage as believe he is well versed in JWM forms.
