Hi all,

Is it possible to create dummy users for training site projects to simulate real life situations like assigning to different persons, making boards and swimlines, making teams etc.?

Hi there,

can I add dummy users without having to provide an email?

The purpose of adding dummy users for me is to not have to invite real users (which I have to do if email is a mandatory field unless I wanna create a bunch of fake emails)

I want to create dummy users to try out apps like tempo planning.

Thanks!

Hi @Jarmo ,

You could create a free instance up to 10 users, if that's an acceptable solution for training.

Hi, @Jarmo

Yes, it is possible to create dummy users for training site projects in Jira Cloud to simulate real-life situations. Jira Cloud provides the functionality to add and manage users within a project.

To create dummy users, you can follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Jira Cloud instance with administrative privileges.
  2. Navigate to the "Jira Settings" by clicking on the gear icon in the top right corner and selecting "System" from the dropdown menu.
  3. In the left-hand sidebar, under the "User management" section, click on "Users."
  4. Click on the "Create Users" button.
  5. Enter the desired details for the dummy user, such as username, full name, and email address. You can use placeholder or fictional information for these fields.
  6. Optionally, you can assign the user to specific groups or project roles to simulate different access levels or permissions.
  7. Repeat the above steps to create as many dummy users as needed.

Once you have created the dummy users, you can utilize them in your training site projects by assigning issues to different users, creating boards and swimlanes with specific user filters, and forming teams with the dummy users as members. This will allow you to simulate various scenarios and test how your project behaves in real-life situations.

Note that dummy users do not receive actual notifications or emails from Jira Cloud, so you can safely use fictional email addresses without affecting any real users.

HI thanks for the fast reply!

but...I am bit confused now :)

3.In the left-hand sidebar, under the "User management" section, click on "Users." There is no "User management" listed? on the left-handsidebar :(

Anyways I tried that  search jira admin button With that search "user management" and got directed to Directory where I can create users so I did create 4 users. Fine

Now I try to create new users the same way and when I do same steps I get list of users what I created but not the create users window anymore..? :)

Heh I will check and come back laters.

Thanks anyways so far!

Hello there. Having the same issue. Wanting to create users for my third-party vendors so I can assign tickets to them and make it easier for other stakeholders to track, however "4. Click on the "Create Users" button" does not exist. Only "Invite" does.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Hi, @James Clarke

Yes, that's it. Just invite them.

Hi there - I am not looking to invite anyone but create dummy users who don't have access to my Jira instance but do handle tickets for me (third part suppliers).

Is this functionality not available?

Thanks. James

@Evgenii I have similar config for my project. Did you assign products as well to the dummy id and added to the directory as well ? Also did you give the dummy user your org name,

Hi, @simarchhabra232

Welcome to Atlassian community

I have 2 variants of process to create dummy user:

1. If I'll need to login under dummy user later, I'm using real email to register user.

If you don't want to create new permanent email boxes, you can use service, which makes temporary emails, for example.

2. If I don't need to login under dummy user later, I'm using any abstract email, that doesn't exist.

In any case, user, added this way, can be used in testing purposes, for assigning to tasks, for example.

And short answer on your questions:

- If you don't add them product access, users can't be used for testing this product, they don't have permission to work with it.  It affects on licensing, of course.

- users are added to directory automatically, when you add them, no matter if they have access to any product or not.

- I don't use org name for dummy users if it's not required for testing. I made it a few times, when I tested configuration of Access. I created users with org name, because it was important for testing process.

Is there any way to do this without increasing the product user count?

for users in a workshop who do not actually have any digital access and this is simply for the production manager to manage workload...

The product should only increase user count based on verified users who have logged in..?
