Done but dont count Story Points

Deleted user April 6, 2021

I want to create a category, a status, or just something that when I set it to a certain status we call it done but I do not want the story points to count towards that person because the ticket is null and void.

Is there a way to get this done?

Hi @[deleted]  -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

We handle situations like this by adding a custom field named Abandoned.  We also update our board filter to ignore abandoned items on the board and in reporting.  Then when we decide we do not need an item, we just check Abandoned, move it to "done", and it vanishes.

One benefit of this approach is the team can refer back to abandoned items during their retrospective, discussing why they abandoned work, and learning how to improve planning in the future.

Best regards,

Bill

No, there's no way to do that with status or categories.

"Done" is defined by the last column on the board, and when any issue arrives in there, its estimate is counted.

If you don't move an issue into the last column, then it is not done, and needs more work, it is not "null and void".

So you can't win with the status/columns/done directly.

What you can do is destroy the estimate and then move it into done.  The estimate of 0 will still be counted, but as 0 doesn't add or subtract anything, you won't notice it.
