Difference between story points and story points estimate fields. Which one to use.

Hello All,

I m using Jira cloud. I have created company managed projects.

Which one has to be used between "story points" and story points estimate files. Please confirm.

Thanks.

Hi @Santhosh R Bhat,

In your case you'll use the "Story Points" field.

I quote the full answer to this from the following community discussion:

"Project templates are split into two types on Jira Cloud: company-managed and team-managed projects.

Both project types use their own issue types and have different time tracking methods, which uses two different fields:

- On company-managed, the estimation is measured on the Story Points field

- On team-managed, the estimation is measured on the Story Point Estimate field

That been said, the time tracking measure will only work for your reports if you use the correct field to do it, depending on your project type.

That's why we should avoid adding the Story Point Estimate field to team-managed project or the Story Points on company-managed."

I hope this helps,

Svenja

Hi @Santhosh R Bhat

Adding to Svenja's answer...

On the issue views / pages, both of those fields are named "Story Points".  The difference in fields is only relevant for configuration, automation rules, and calling REST API functions.

Where are you concerned about using the correct field.

Kind regards,
Bill
