Delete a sprint in a team managed project

Mario Aguirre October 22, 2024

I have a team-managed project. Due to an error in a workflow, when closing a sprint, all the issues were moved to another sprint adn the sprint was closed empty. The workflow issue was corrected and then the new sprint that had all the issues was closed. The problem is that those issues, now have stored 2 sprints (with the same name). How can i delete one of those sprints so reports on completed issues are not broken? (Information is exported and consumed by a system that only accepts one sprint per issue).

Hi @Mario Aguirre

Welcome.

As you are in a team managed project, there is a workaround for this.

See this open suggestion for the steps.

@Manoj Gangwar Your response is correct for Company managed projects, but this won't apply to Team managed as stated by the request

@Marc - Devoteam I went through the article you mentioned, but I'm afraid that the Reports option does not appear in my menu.

Hi @Mario Aguirre

Go to the project settings of the project.

Select the Features option and enable projects.

Thank you @Marc - Devoteam I was able to see the reports and I was able to reach the Sprint burndown chart. Now the caveat is that in the Sprint dropdown list I only see the open sprints not the closed ones. Maybe I need to build some filter or enable something else?

Hi @Mario Aguirre

If there are no closed sprints, the sprint you want to remove should be still open in your backlog.

No, as said it was closed. I solved it by the long path. For the record, what i had to do is:

  • Go to filters and search for all the issues worked in the closed sprint.
  • Bulk edit them and changed the status to an open one (namely In progress).
  • Bulk edit the sprint value to a transient sprint (that deleted both sprints on them).
  • Bulk move them back to the right sprint.
  • Bulk closed them.

I was not able to delete the wrong/duplicated sprint by itself but it's empty so it is no longer appearing in the reports as my reports work just with issues and not sprints.

I'll still mark your answer as you helped me to have the Reports option visible.

@Manoj Gangwar I already read that one before posting this question but my project is a team-managed one and that solution does not apply. Thanks anyway!
