Custom SAML Plugin Feasibility in Atlassian Jira and confluence

DevOps-Tally_ September 4, 2019

“When can we expect SAML built in integration with On-Premise Jira and Confluence license model”.

Also, “Can we build SAML plugin on our own to integrate with Azure AD? How feasible is it  to have a customization from our end”.

Hi @DevOps-Tally_

Currently the Atlassian Data-Center Application contain a basic implementation of SAML. For Server to my knowledge there are no plans to include SAML out of the Box.

For Server it is absolutely possible to develop your own SAML Plugin - but there are many feature-rich and well maintained SAML Plugins available from the Atlassian Marketplace already. Even though they come at a cost it's unlikely that the effort you need to spend on Development will be cheaper than buying one of the shelf.

If you search for SAML you get a good overview: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/search?query=saml

The Top 3 Products (which includes ours) are available across most if not all Atlassian Server Applications.

Our plugin is the most sold & installed one and works very well with AzureAD. Actually we have a fairly unique feature set in conjunction with AzureAD, that most other plugins will not have.
We can synchronise your Users & Groups from Azure in a regular interval, in a similar way that the Atlassian Applications can natively synchronise via LDAP. This goes way beyond the Just-in-Time Provisioning that most other plugins can do only (we can do that too, though).

Last but not least some of those links may be interesting for you:

Cheers,
Christian

P.S. Full disclosure, I work for resolution, a marketplace vendor.
