Custom Field: how create Context for multiple projects (but not Global)

Ratom November 26, 2024

Hi all,

We have custom field = Market with the list of values. Initially this field didn't have Default value (=None).

It was used OK for single project, and now we try to expand it to 2 more projects and found that it won't work.
When we turn on Global context, it broken workflows for all other projects requiring set a default value for Custom Field  "Market".

We can set default value for it to something from the list but I afraid that it can break something for other 20 projects. Or do you think it will transparent for all other project which don't want to use this field ?

As seen on pic #3 you can select only single project or Global. Maybe somewhere in main Jira config we have option to turn ON multi select ?

What would be a good solution? Is it possible to find a way to make this field work only for 2 projects ?

Thanks + Happy Holidays

Hi @Ratom - If you are just trying to have a context be shared for more than one project, you can just hold the CTRL button down and you are then able to select multiple projects from screenshot #3 that you shown.

This is what I have done in my example.

Hi @Ratom

What you want can't be done, there is not such an option.

Use the global context for all projects and a new context for a project where a default value needs to be set.

So for the 2 projects you need a default value, create a context for this project with the same options and set one as default.

The global context is for all projects then and the 2 other contexts for the specific project.

context.pngHello Ratom,

we can create separate context for each project with different options for the same custom field. It will not break any  workflows.

Thanks
