I'm new to Jira and am transitioning multiple implementation projects from Easy Projects and Smartsheet to Jira. In Easy Projects and Smartsheet, when a dependency is created and the dependency date changes with other tasks dependent on that certain task, all other dates will automatically change. How do you set up tasks to create this type of dependency functionality? For example, I have a targeted opening date and that date drives the due date of multiple tasks, see outline below. If the opening date changes, then the due date of all of the dependent tasks adjust accordingly. I'm having huge difficulties setting this up in Jira and it seems very complicated for what I need.
Opening Date - 1/1/2023
1) Engage for PSA Report - starts -30 days prior to opening date with 15 days to complete
2) Hire the Marketing Director - starts 320 days prior to the opening date with 60 days to complete
I want to just change the opening date and by changing this date, it automatically changes the other tasks that are dependent upon this task.
Do you mean by dependencies parent issue with subtasks?
When you change the date for the parent issue, it will automatically change the date for the subtasks as well?
Once you answer my question it will give me a better idea.
Best,
Fadoua
Yes, but in our case we have several different divisions that have their own workflow. Each of their workflows are added under their division (epic) and then sub tasks added that are dependent on the different dependicies. We need to be able to plug and play because the divisions change for each project. Their sub-tasks are all dependent on certain tasks, which we define as the timeline. When the timeline tasks change, we want this to automatically change the tasks below.
