No matter the PROJECT most of my tasks are same. Can I copy an entire project and list of to-do's, paste it and JUST re-name it for a new "Project"?

Or, can you set the Key field "TA-1", "TA-2" so that you can just re-select them over and over again for every single project, not have to type them in each time? (Again, same set of tasks for every PROJECT.)

Hi @Corrine Erickson and welcome to the community!

If you’re looking for an efficient way to duplicate entire Jira projects, including their issues, configurations, and workflows, I highly recommend our app Deep Clone for Jira. Deep Clone is designed specifically to address needs like yours, providing a seamless solution to "copy and paste" projects with just a few clicks.

How Deep Clone for Jira Can Help:

  • Project Clone: Clone entire projects with all their issues, configurations, and workflows intact.
  • Bulk Clone: Need just a set of tasks replicated? Bulk clone thousands of issues across projects with ease.
  • Customizable Cloning: Select specific fields, comments, attachments, and links to include or exclude during the cloning process.

Hello @Corrine Erickson

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Or, can you set the Key field "TA-1", "TA-2" so that you can just re-select them...

That is the issue key and it is comprised of the Project Key and a number. The Project Key will be (and must be) unique for each project. Each issue's key is also unique. So, you cannot have multiple issues with the same keys.

To your original question...

Let us first confirm we are using the same terminology. A Jira Project is an entity that contains issues. You can see all Jira Projects by going to the Projects menu and selecting View All Projects.

Some people use the term "project" to refer to a subset of issues within a Jira Project, so I want to make sure we are speaking about the same thing.

Jira does not natively support a single-button "copy project" function. There are a number of alternatives.

  1. Have a CSV file that contains your issues and use the CSV import process to create a new Jira project from that file each time you need it.
  2. You could potentially use an Automation Rule to create a set of issues within a project.
  3. You could third party apps that provide project cloning capabilities:
