Configure the availability of team members in newest version

Sunny Liao October 31, 2024

Hello everyone,

I am want to configure the availability of team members and show it in Plan so I can check if the current sprint is overload for specific assignee under specific project, I found this document online: https://confluence.atlassian.com/advancedroadmapsserver/configuring-the-availability-of-team-members-814212629.html

However, I with my version I don't see this feature.

I even go to the new version page, but no clear instruction is provided: https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirasoftwareserver/discover-advanced-roadmaps-for-jira-1044784153.html

Can anyone let me know how can I set this up in newest version?

Thank you for your help in advance!

Hello @Sunny Liao

The documentation references you listed relate to Advanced Roadmaps in the self-hosted Jira product (Server/Data Center). If you are using Jira Cloud Premium the functionality is different.

This document provides an overview of the various features of Plans (formerly known as Advanced Roadmaps) for Jira Cloud.

https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/guides/advanced-roadmaps/overview#how-do-i-add-my-teams-to-a-plan

That document includes a section regarding capacity planning. In Jira Cloud Plans capacity is specified for the entire team, not for individuals.

Also in Jira Cloud Plans there is not a feature for configuring availability at either the Team or the individual level. You can find issues (open and closed) related to availability configuration in the Atlassian public backlog. Here is a Search to help you find that information:

https://jira.atlassian.com/issues/?jql=project%20%3D%20JSWCLOUD%20AND%20component%20%3D%20%22Plan%20(Advanced%20Roadmaps)%20-%20Roadmap%22%20and%20summary~availability

Hi @Sunny Liao

If you're using Jira Cloud Premium plan, you can configure teams in Plan:

Hope it helps,

Hello @YY Brother

Thank you!
I have set that up, but I can't configure individual member's capacity from here.

What I want to do is to check if the current sprint is overload base on their individual capacity to this project.

Do you know how can I do that?

Hi Sunny,

No such functionality in Jira Plans. Sprints are teamwork, not individuals'.

The agile teams will decide what or how much you should commit based on their capacity. It's actually complicated when we consider employee leave and other factors like team formation stage.

For a specific story, the front-end, back-end developers and QA may work for it together. So it's difficult or unpractical to look at the individual's capacity.

Hope it helps,

YY Bro

在  Sprint Planning 时,可以查看某个 Sprint 里,分配到每个 Assignee 头上的 Issue Count, Total of Story Points 和 Total of Orginal Estimates,不知道是否是你需要的呢?

Thanks @YY Brother ,
This is helpful but might not enough for us to plan based on each members availability.
Still, thank you so much for your help!
Really appreciate!
