Hello all JIRA users/developers,
Why isn't there a simple and flexible standard function in JIRA to save a project as a template? If this function (copy project as project template) had existed, it would have saved a lot of time and work (and money). I cannot understand why this function is missing, in most other applications/programs this is a basic function. Is this function included in Atlassian's road map? If yes, when is it scheduled to be released?
Kind regards
Niklas
Hello @Niklas Lithander
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
What would you expect to be included in the project template?
For what type of project do you want to create a template? Team Managed or Company Managed? Business/Work Management, Software, or Service Management?
For Company Managed projects there is an option during project creation to Share settings with an existing project.
(Disabled here because this screen image is from a Free subscription.)
Using that you can create a new project that shares the Schemes of an existing project. The two projects would use the same schemes for fields, screens, issue types, workflows, permissions, notifications, etc. This doesn't create a new copy of the schemes for the new project; any changes to the schemes would affect both projects.
That is the closest thing to a project template that is available with native Jira Cloud functionality.
There is a change request about supporting project templates here:
