I've run into a situation where I am trying to import a project within my Jira Cloud platform - but the project type I can import to is only offered as "Business Project". My project is a "Software Project" and I want to match that project type.
I can import other sources (ex. Trello) to be "Software Projects".
In fact, I can import a "Business Project" to become a "Software Project". But it seems you cannot map like for like with project types. Stranger still, I can import my "Software Project" as a "Business Project", and then import that "Business Project" as a "Software Project" to achieve my end result but it feels wasteful.
Does anyone have a reasonable explanation as to why this would be the case?
I found a workaround but not too impressed with it at the moment.
I had to first import my "software project" as a "business project" (only option available).
Then I could use that as a template to import the "business project" as a "software project" and get my desired template and result.
So now I'll work with the template, but seems like an oversight that I cannot import a like for like project type.
Hi @Jamie Andreson , Are you trying to import issues via "external system import" using a CSV file import?
Can you also share a screenshot of the import page view where it offers only one project type?
typically, you should be able to either select an existing project to import the issues to or to create a new project

Hi Abdallah,
The steps I used were:
In the end I didn't try the CSV option, but imported a software as business, and now use the business as a template to import software going forward. Frustrating, to say the least.

I have the same experience in my Free Jira instance.

I recommend that you open a support case with Atlassian about this. And it would be great if you report back here what you learn.

@Jamie Andreson , these steps are mainly for importing data across project types, you're only seeing "Business project" when you select "what type you will import your data from" as Jira (software project), if you choose "Jira (business project)" in step 3, you will only see "Software project" in options.
If you want to migrate from a JSW project to another JSW, your best option is to use CSV to import issue data to your existing JSW project.

Hello, I have same issue and I tried to import CSV. Unfortunately importing CSV request to manually map 84 columns of my CSV file to other columns which is not possible.
How can this be solved ?

You can break down the import process into smaller batches. You may not need to import all 84 columns at once. Start with critical fields to get the issues into Jira, then update them with additional data.

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
Is your original project in a cloud instance or DataCenter instance?
Honestly I never ran into this issue, however, let's troubleshoot and see what could be the problem.
Best,
Fadoua
