I've just created a new company-managed project and under project settings > Features, no option for components shows. Are components deprecated? How can I get the option to toggle the feature on?
Hello @Mike
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
Did you create a Software, Service, or Work Management type of project?
If you see navigation options in the panel on the left then you have a Software or Service project. Which one it is will be shown just below the Project Name at the top of the panel. Components functionality applies only to Software projects.
If you see navigation options across the top like Summary, List, Board, and Calendar, then you have a Work Management project. Components are not available for that type of project. Instead there is a similar feature through the Category field.

Hello @Mike
In your original post you stated that you created a company-managed project. Unfortunately that is not accurate. What you are showing in your image is a team-managed project.
Components functionality is not available in team managed projects. You can vote on a change request for that here:
https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-17601
As an alternative you could use the Labels or Checkbox custom fields available in team managed projects.
