Cannot delete next-gen board

Toke K October 26, 2018

Hi clever people,

I have a "next-gen" board from a deleted project left over, and I can't seem to get rid of it:Boards.png

When I access the board, it looks like this:image.png

To clarify, that is what it looks like when it's done loading.

How do I get rid of the board?

Hello Toke,

Usually, Next-Gen boards cannot be manually deleted, however, it's automatically deleted once you delete the project.

That being said, the only possibility to face the error you are currently facing would be if the board is related to an existing next-gen project that is Private on your site, and you are not able to access

I would recommend you to check the following details:

The boards of next-gen projects are always named with its project key + the word Board.

That being said, If you are a site administrator, you can look in your project list the project that has the same project key of the board's name and verify if you are able to access it.

If you are not, you can click on the three dots menu in the right side of the project (at the projects page) and click Project Settings to proper add yourself in the people tab and access the project.

Nope.

I also have a board with no project that I am unable to delete or view. Any ideas?

Can I somehow recreate the deleted project and re-attach the board?

I have the same issue.  I deleted the Next-Gen project, but the Board still shows up in my Boards list.  Not to mention all of the Boards for Archived projects.

Settings (Cog Icon) -> Projects -> Trash (on left hand side bar)

On Jira Cloud I moved the next-gen project to trash and the next-gen board stays. Then I deleted the project permanently from the trash (in manage project -> trash) and the next-gen board is gone.

Here is what worked for me:

  1. Go to Settings > Projects > Manage Projects
  2. Select the three dots and "Archive" the Project

When you go to the list of Boards now the Board associated with this next-gen project is "Private". You can now delete it.

Then you can go back to Manage Projects and Restore the project.

Of course this assumes you have all the proper permissions. Good luck!

On Jira-Cloud there is no "Archive" only "Move to Trash" on the three dots in Manage Projects. Maybe this is because I am working with the free plan currently.

Permanently deleting a next-gen project via settings>projects>trash will remove the board. This is a permanent process.

Jeff Mylrea October 22, 2020

I have already deleted the project and it did not remove the board unfortunately.

Exactly, deleting a next gen project does NOT delete the board
