Cannot change the order of issues within in Kanban board column.

Edited

Using Jira Cloud, I am unable to change the order of issues within in Kanban board column.

Right clicking the issue and selecting "Top of Column" does not work and neither does "Bottom of Column". The issues stay where they are and do not move. I cannot drag cards and change the order that way either. The only thing I can do is move cards between columns.

I have a second JIRA account that seems to works fine.

Is there a setting that could be preventing me from changing the order of cards within a column?

I have finally resolved this issue.

The permissions were not correct for:

Schedule Issues
Ability to view or edit an issue's due date.

If the correct group for the user is not assigned to this permission, then changing the order of issues (I believe its called ranking) does not work.

Hi Dan,

you might want to check your boards settings & make sure the board filter is ordered by "Rank".

Something like:

project = ABC AND resolution IS EMPTY ORDER BY Rang ASC

Best

Think there's a miskey in the most important part of the answer - your filter must contain "order by ranK" (and no other order)

Hehe, not a miskey, but another language... Rang is German & that works, too. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hey, no problem!  I've learned something new from that, thank you!

@JP _AC Bielefeld Leader_ Thank you for the reply. I tried your recommendation, which was close to the project default, excluding the "resolution is empty" part.

Unfortunately, I still cannot move cards up and down in any of the 31 projects we have configured, nor any fresh test projects that use default settings.

I've even added swimlanes and right clicking and selecting "Top of" or "Bottom of", does not work.

I've also tested this in multiple browsers and its the same in each.

I have just encountered this problem. It was not permissions, which were set correctly. I had been trying to move my issue to the top but that hadn't worked, so eventually I moved the issues that were above it DOWN instead and this worked. After moving 3 issues down I was then left with my original issue at the top. HTH

Dan! Thank you very much for this. I was trying to set the permission to rank tasks for a long time with no success. Jira's explanation about what is "Schedule Issues" is not very enlightening... Due date and rank are two things completely different in my point of view. Thank you again!

Hi @Dan Casler

Iam facing same issue can you please suggest how to solve this issue.

Cheers

Naveen
