Can you disable opening in new tab feature when selecting to view a card?

Example

When viewing the backlog, click on an issue to view. 

In the details column (where you can edit), click to view the issue in full screen

Issue opens in a new tab each time.

Question - can I change the setting so it opens in the same window to avoid multiple tabs being open?

FYI - I am aware you can edit directly or drag the column to make it bigger without needing to click on the link to full screen, so I don't need these as solutions.  I'd like the window to open in the same tab if wanted.

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

On the backlog view, currently, it’s not possible to change how to view a ticket. When clicking on that link, a new tab will open.

When it comes to boards, it’s possible to select if you want to open on the sidebar or dialog. 

There is a feature suggesting to implement this feature on the backlog as well:

• Ability to choose the issue details open type(sidebar/dialog) in the backlog
