Can we use Crowd in JIRA Studio with external applications?

How could we extend this to our own external applications, say, to achieve SSO?

Unfortunately, the SSO authentication will not work to external aplications, as the servers have some security filters, that disallow the access to Crowd URL from servers outside the instance, and the authentication is just allowed to the "localhost" hostname.
