Hello Daniel and welcome to the Community!

Within Jira Server you may change the color of your epics by completing the following steps:

  1. Open your board, and click Backlog.
  2. Click EPICS on the left side of the board (aligned vertically) to open it.

  3. Click the arrow next to the epic's name, then choose the color from the menu.

From there you can then change the color of your epics.

I hope this proves helpful and you’re able to make your boards more colorful!

Hi Stephen,

Could you explain how I do this on Jira Cloud?

Where can I find the backlog section?

Kind Regards,

Daniel

Hello Daniel,

The instructions for Cloud are documented as the same, but they are functionally different. I have submitted a request to have the cloud documentation updated. I applied the above answer to the Jira server as that was what the question was tagged as.

For Jira Cloud, you will need to do the following to edit your Epics (Issue Type Colors)

  1. Navigate to your Kanban board.
  2. Navigate to your Board Settings (top right *** menu).
  3. Select Card Colors from the left menu.
  4. Click “Colors based on” and select “Issue Types”.
  5. Click on the color box to the left of Epic to select a new color.

Here are screenshots of these steps:

For creating a backlog with Jira Cloud, please see the following set of instructions at Enabling the Kanban backlog.

I hope this is helpful for adjusting the colors of your issue types in Jira Cloud.
