Can I move or copy a project from one Jira/Atlassian account to another Jira/atlassian account?

michael_glenn_williams January 11, 2024

Hi All,

I've been letting a friend use our account to run some projects. Now they have grown and created their own Jira account. They want to have complete copies of the existing projects in their new account. What is the best way to achieve that?

Many thanks,

Michael

Hello @michael_glenn_williams

If you’re trying to clone an project from one Jira instance to another, I can suggest trying our app Elements Copy & Sync. It allows you to clone (and sync if needed) issues with all their content (summary, description, custom fields, comments, attachments, etc) across different projects and instances.

Don’t hesitate to check our documentation.

The app is for free during 30 days (and it stays free under 10 users).

Hi @michael_glenn_williams

I'm Luka from codefortynine 👋

If the native cloud-to-cloud features of Jira are not sufficient, and you are willing to try a third-party app, our app Deep Clone for Jira can help you migrate your issues between instances with our Instance Clone feature.

It's a common use case for Deep Clone, and even Atlassian used the app for this when they migrated their JSM projects. We have a detailed step-by-step guide here.

Currently, we can only clone issues across instances, but we are hoping to release an update in the near future to enable cloning whole projects, including settings and workflows.

Hello @Luka Hummel - codefortynine

My team is trying to migrate a project from one Jira account to another. We're really struggling to find a good method on how to do this. I found that there is an export/import option under the issues tab, but that didn't seem to work when we went to try to map everything. We are using the free tier account so I don't believe we have all of the system tools available to use the migration beta that I've seen in other community posts. Would Deep Clone be a good option to migrate a project to another Jira account?

Thank you,

Nicholas

Hi @Nicholas Curry and welcome to the community!

Yes. Deep Clone for Jira can help you migrate whole projects from one Jira Account/Site to another.

When cloning projects to another site, Deep Clone will try to map fields based on field name and type automatically, but you can also map fields manually.2024-11-14 08-10.png

Hi, Sagi from Salto.io here.

If you want to copy the project's configuration, you can check out our SaaS product.
Salto allows you to move configurations between any two instances. You can move the entire project or cherry-pick specific elements within the project.

You can find a demo of this use case in this video, we offer a 30-day free trial so feel free to check it out

Hello @michael_glenn_williams

Review the documentation on Cloud to Cloud migrations for options on how to copy data from one Jira Cloud instance to another Jira Cloud instance.
