Can I have the same sprint across different projects

Aditya Pandav November 15, 2024

Is it possible to have the same sprint across several projects? For example if I am leading several projects, and they follow similar timelines, would it not be easier for me to just have all of the project boards mapped to the same sprint?

If this happens, will the sprint burndown reports have information from all projects?

Hi @Aditya Pandav ,

Sprints are connected to the boards and boards (when talking about company-managed projects) are actually connected to filters that can contain issues from one or more projects. Each board then just needs one particular location - whether that's a specific project or a single user.

However, sprints are not locked to a single board. I would recommend checking out the following question/discussion: Duplicate sprint names on two different boards of the project

Additionally, quite recently I was preparing for ACA-905 and I would recommend checking out the following University courses related to boards:

In the second one I believe you can find a quite good explanations on how reports generally work based on specific board configuration.
For any 'more advanced' reports, you might need to check out the Marketplace solutions.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Tom

Hi @Aditya Pandav

Yes, Sprints are considered unique entities and are not related to projects but to issues.

Actually there a frequent question that unintentionally sprints are shared by users and https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/sprint-management-for-projects-appearing-on-multiple-boards-in-jira-cloud-1252001215.html explains on why that is an expected behaviour
