Can Crowd be used with JIRA Studio?

Annastashia Cambridge August 30, 2011

Ideally we'd like to use single sign on, both for our customers and for internal use. Is there a SSO option for JIRA Studio or a solution using Crowd on-premises to manage authentication for JIRA Studio? (as well as own own apps etc). I see Crowd can be used with Cloud hosted applications which is great.

I saw Crowd mentioned here: http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRASTUDIO/JIRA+Studio+Application+Versions#JIRAStudioApplicationVersions-SingleSignon%28Crowd%29

Thanks, Stash

AFAIK, this is not possible. I had asked this to the Atlassian sales team when we were evaluating Studio and the answer is pasted here -

  • In one of your documentation pages, I saw that Crowd is also part of the Studio. Is that true?
Crowd is used in JIRA Studio behind the scenes to unify the user management and handle single sign-on. Unlike the full version available for download and install, it is not capable of connecting with external applications.
  • Will we get Active Directory integration with JIRA Studio?
We can do a one-time initial import of your users, but we don't presently integrate with Active Directory beyond that.

Hope this helps.

That's right Nikhil. Crowd is limitaded in Studio - it's not possible to use it as SSO.

The only possible SSO is Google Apps integration as described here: http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRASTUDIO/Managing+Users+with+Google+Apps+Integration
