CSV Import - Roll out to come

Hi everyone,

today I was suprised by this message, when I clicked "import".

I tried to get more info on that, but could not find anything about it.

I wonder if admin, after this roll out, can still give certain groups global permission for bulk change or even whether this will be prevented.

Any info is very much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi All,

New update: With the ticket i raised with Atlassian support, this is what they said:

"I have checked internally and I can confirm that the roll out of the depreciation has been postponed till September 2024 until the team will find an alternative for importing CSV files in Jira for non-admins and the notification of this enrolment should soon disappear

So far the CSV Import feature is still available to everyone and on the future you will be notified with the new alternative for importing CSV files in Jira for non-admins."

Phew!

Hi Susanna, hi Kaitlin,

in the meanwhile I contacted Atlassian support and described our concerns and the business use cases which depend on the import function. In case you don't know that there will be an option I share with you the answer I've received:

"I just got another update from the devs that we will have a whitelist of customers who can be exempted from change. This will come into play once the feature is fully developed after June 30th.
So just in case if the import option is removed for non-admins you can choose to opt out of it. Just raise a ticket in June so that we know if the option is being removed or not and reference this ticket for opting out."

Oh that is great! I reached out to them as well and have been going back and forth on our use cases and concerns. I will reference this conversation if I'm not able to get anywhere. Thank you so much for posting this!

The import process has been significantly improved, introducing a powerful "Advanced Import" feature accessible exclusively to Organization and Site Admins. While the standard CSV import remains available for general users, it has been relocated within the advanced issues interface.

Users seeking to import via CSV must possess the "Global Bulk Changes" permission and follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the relevant project.
  2. Click on the "Issues" tab.
  3. Locate the three-dot icon on the right-hand side and select either "Bulk Changes" or "Import Issues via CSV."

Detailed instructions can be found at https://support.atlassian.com/jira-work-management/docs/create-issues-using-the-csv-importer/.

This change was also a pain point for our organization until I did a deep dive and found out the above. I hope this helps!

Hi Anette! I don't have much info either but I did manage to find something on Atlassian Cloud Changes. I think since it's rolling out, there isn't much info and later on Atlassian will share more details as it's quite an important change

Hi Susanna, indeed an important change, in our organization quite a lot non-admin users will miss this functionality.

I saw the same thing, and am concerned with implications on this. I don't want this to disrupt processes for teams to import issues. Unless there is more control over what an Admin can do/see, this will create large bottlenecks for us.
