COLOR FOR THE JIRA BOXES

Dear Sir or Madam, I really love the new format of the JIRA board for teams. Very similar to TRELLO but more professional for the business. However, I still find it very difficult to tinker with JIRA. It has a lot of functionality and things to look at, but I can't find it very intuitive, and I end up not discovering more functions.

About that, one of the things I would like to know if there is any app for the new configuration that allows to color the boxes and labels. I recently downloaded one app and was in the trial period, but it doesn't show up in the box at all and because it is so hard, I gave up looking for more. I would really appreciate it if you could develop this or give me feedback. Thanks

Hi @Cecilia

Welcome to the Atlassian community!

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but when you say Jira Boxes, if you're asking if you could apply some type of coloring to Jira Cards then this is definitely possible.

It would look something like this (as seen in the screenshot below) — you can apply a color based on different types of criteria that you like.

one of the things I would like to know if there is any app for the new configuration that allows to color the boxes and labels.

The good news is that you can do what you're looking for without necessarily using an app. It's possible with Jira's native functionality to:

  • Change the card colors
  • Add up to three custom fields to display on the cards (including labels).
Note: At the moment, the ability to define card colors to quickly identify cards on your board based on certain criteria is only available for Jira Software company-managed projects (Scrum and Kanban) and is not available for Team-Managed projects.

How to apply card colors

  1. Go into Board settings.
  2. Click Card Colors
  3. Click on the drop-down field called Colors based on — here you can choose the card color based on:
    • Issue Types
    • Priorities
    • Assignees
    • JQL Query — you can get pretty creative here. But as an example, you could have a JQL query to do things like:
      • Make the color of the card red when due date is within the next 5 days (duedate <= 5d)
      • Make the color of the card blue when the summar of the issue matches a specific text
      • Make the color of the card green when the assignee is "Jane Doe"
      • And the list goes on :)

Here's the article if you want to read more details

How to display the label field on a Card

Like I mentioned above — You can also configure cards on a board to display up to three additional fields.

To add fields to cards:

  1. navigate to your company-managed project.
  2. Go into your Board settings.
  3. Select Card layout.
  4. Add or delete fields as desired.

Once you add the label — this is how it would look like on your board. (note: you can see the label on the face of the card "my-label").

Hope that helps,

Hi Hamza!

On your first image above, how were you able to apply a highlighted color to the summary titles of your Jira cards?

Was just wondering since it can be used to easier distinguish the Jira card color as well.

Thanks,

Jordan
