Building a custom jira report based on labels

Haseeb Khan August 25, 2024

Hello,

I am trying to build a report that shows ticket count with specific labels. I am struggling to get even basic numbers out as the report builder shows only some basic series and not a lot of options for advanced queries

Could I be pointed to som documentation that can help?

Thank you

Hi @Haseeb Khan

when you're referring to a report builder, are you referring to a particular Jira feature, or perhaps Marketplace apps?

In general, I'd suggest looking into the 2-dimensional filter gadget as mentioned by Rustem above.

Alternatively, if you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, your use case should be easy to solve using the app that my team and I are working on, JXL for Jira.

JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. It also comes with a long list of advanced features, including support for (configurable) issue hierarchies, issue grouping by any issue field(s), sum-ups, or conditional formatting.

With these, you can build a view like e.g. this in just a couple of clicks:

group-by-labels.gif

This is really just one of a virtually endless number of possible views and reports; you can also view and group by any other issue fields, configure different sum-up styles, etc. etc.

Any questions just let me know,

Best,

Hannes

Hi @Haseeb Khan, good question!

I've seen a few webinars about an app called Report Builder. It has some functionality that allows you to create any report you want, based on any Jira field.

Maybe @Rustem Shiriiazdanov can help you.

Hi @Haseeb Khan

Thanks for question!

As I am not sure if you are trying to resolve a general enquiry, or you a questions specifically about Actonic Report Builder, I'll try to provide info on both topics.

1. General reporting:
You may create your own Jira Filter to select issues with specific labels. To do so follow these steps:
a. Filters -> View all Filters -> Create Filter (or just navigate to all issues, create a search there and save it as a filter). Filter example with JQL could be "project = "yourProjectKey" AND labels IN ("bug", "urgent")". Just replace "yourProjectKey" with your actual project key and modify the labels according to your needs.

b. Create either Issue statistics or two-dimensional filter statistics in any Jira Dashboard, as shown on a screenshot below

Hope this helps.

2. If your question is about Actonic Report Builder https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1216997/report-builder-jira-tool-for-your-report-and-dashboard?hosting=cloud&tab=overview

then just start a "Universal report" and create following configuration:

You may select the labels to include/exclude in "get data" menu, or by filtering "Labels" in the "column" section. Should you have further questions about product, please raise a topic to our support portal.

With best regards,

Rustem
