Building a Rule to update linked JPD issue from Jira ticket

joshuar-cm January 27, 2025

Hi, I started with this article:

https://support.atlassian.com/automation/kb/update-linked-issues-status-when-the-linked-issue-status-is-changed/

And imported the rule provided there to Jira as JSON. However, when I edit the rule's parameters in the rule builder, the available statuses to transition to do not include JPD statuses.

What I'm trying to do:

  • When a STORY in Jira transitions to a STATUS,
  • Go to the JPD ticket linked as "IMPLEMENTS" in the Story,
  • Update the STATUS of the JPD ticket to correspond.

The article above is written to accomplish this goal, except that when I edit it in the rule builder, the "Destination Status" dropdown only appears to include statuses from Jira, not JPD.

Any suggestions? Appreciate your advice!

Hello @joshuar-cm

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

What is the Project Scope for your rule, on the Rule Details page?

Ugh, I knew it needed to be Global Scope, it just didn't occur to me that needed to be set before I finished the rule. Silly mistake.

Setting the Rule to Global Scope caused all the statuses to appear as expected.

Thank you - I've been around for years, I just never post because I find my questions already answered all the time!
