Best practice using JIRA for hardware projects

Thomas Burkhart October 13, 2011

Hi,

we are just starting with JIRA and our Project contains Software, Firmware and Hardware parts.

  1. What is the best way to specify hardware requirements in JIRA
  2. Is it better to but all three parts into one project or mae separate projects.
    Issues may be:
  • All three parte may have there own releases
  • All three parts depend on each other

It would be great if you could tell me your way to deal with this situation

Best

So far we split Software and Hardware komponents into different Projects. In JIRA we only collect requirements with a short description. If it's aomething that need detailed explanation we use a link to Confluence where we keep all specifications.

I also added a issue Type "Question" where I collect open questions to the "Customer" these are displayed in a JIRA-Portlet on the frontpage of the development space.
