Avoid a transition if child issues still open

Hi!

I created an Automation to avoid closing an epic when not all child stories are also closed but it doesn't work.

Also I tried doing it through a transition and also didn't work.

This is my workflow:

This is what I've done in the transition:

Besides my intention to avoid the transition to DONE, is to pop up a message letting know why the transition is not possible or avoided.

Please your help to solve this.

@Cristóbal González I believe your workflow condition is backwards. All sub-tasks should be in a Done status to allow the parent to transition.

If you’re open to a plugin suggestion, I recommend trying our app, JIRA Misc Workflow Extensions for JIRA Cloud.

Here’s what I did to address your scenario:

  1. I modified the workflow and added a validator to the transition to "Done."

  2. The validator checks the issue before transitioning:

    • It validates the linked issue type "is Parent of."
    • Uses the condition "All issues must be in the selected statuses."
    • You can limit this to specific issues or, as in my case, apply it to "Any" issue.
    • Select the desired status(es) that the child issues must be in.
    • Specify an error message to display if the criteria aren’t met.

This ensures the issue transitions only if all validation requirements are fulfilled.
