Automation to add an issue generated by a form to a specific project

Frances Suazo February 21, 2025

I have a form that users submit but when I go into the issue, it is not associated to a project. How can I automate so that all issues generated by this form is added to a specific project?

@Frances Suazo It isn't possible to have an issue that is not associated with a project. Can you provide a screenshot of what you are seeing?

@Frances Suazo

Technically, the location of this button "Add project" is for when you need to add a parent for this issue. (+1 level)

Hi @Frances Suazo

When using Smart Forms for Jira, you can ensure that all issues generated by a form are automatically assigned to a specific project during creation. Here’s how you can do it:

✅ How to Ensure Issues Are Created in the Right Project

1️⃣ Go to the Smart Form Settings

  • Open the form you’re using.
  • Navigate to "Create New Issue" settings.

2️⃣ Assign a Default Project

  • In the Project field, select the Jira project where all new issues should be created.
  • Choose the correct Issue Type (e.g., Task, Bug, Request).Define S (1).png

3️⃣ Automate Issue Routing with Jira Automation (Optional)
If you need more dynamic control, you can set up a Jira Automation rule:

  • Trigger: Issue Created (when a form submission generates an issue).
  • Condition: If the issue is missing a project or has a default form label.
  • Action: Move the issue to the correct project.

🚀 Final Outcome

Every form submission automatically creates an issue in the correct project.
No manual project assignment needed.
If additional routing logic is required, Jira Automation can handle it.

Would you like a step-by-step guide on setting this up? Happy to help! 😊

Hi Frances - All forms are attached to a project. You create the form inside the project therefore it is attached.
