Is there a way to add SW asset data base to Jira server? I'd like to create a table somewhere in Jira that maps a SW asset name and a corresponding owner for it.

Is there a way to then source these asset names into a Jira Feature such that then stories are automatically created for those assets impacted by a particular feature and also assigned to the owner from the database?

You need the Jira Service Management Server with the Insight/Assets for Jira Service Management plugin  or  the Jira Service Management Data Center which has Assets built-in

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

The usual answer to this is to get the Assets app (Atlassian's CMDB app for Jira) and import your asset data into that.

There are a couple of others apps in the marketplace you might want to try out.

Be aware that you won't be able to get any of these for Server, as it is going away in less than a year, you will need to move to Data Center or Cloud to get any asset-functions added.
