Hi,
Presently, we are endeavouring to utilize the Advanced Roadmap feature. However, we believe that our current utilization may not align entirely with our development scenario and might not be the most appropriate approach.
Scenario 1:
Due to differences in the interpretation of start and end dates between Team A and Team B, integration of their respective timelines into a unified view within an advanced roadmap plan proves unattainable.
Scenario 2:
The allocation of tickets for Team A is contingent upon the completion of tickets by Team B. However, due to a significant backlog in the ticket queue, Team B is unable to ascertain definitive start and end dates for their tasks. Consequently, this backlog has a direct impact on the ability of Team A to provide accurate estimations for their own tickets.
Could you kindly provide recommendations on the optimal approach to address these situations? Thank you.
I believe your case relies mostly on internal process, not the tool.
Tasks from team B will need to be carefully prioritized and planned for execution FIRST in order for team A to start working. Team B will have to tackle the backlog in the ticket queue and plan out the starting and ending dates.
And in case team B finds it difficult, they need to break larger tasks into smaller and more manageable parts for incremental delivery.
Only then, team A can base on the timeline from team B's tasks and create dependencies or issue links to plan their tasks accordingly.
This sounds like more of a process issue, not a tooling issue.
Until Team B is able to make a better determination as to when they expect to be able to complete items in their backlog (which is not a problem with Jira, it's just that the information is tracked in Jira), then Team A will not be able to provide the accurate estimations for their tasks.
Until the primary issue is resolved, you'll never be able to build out an accurate roadmap, no matter what tool you're using, since neither Team A nor Team B have good estimates to build out a roadmap.
