Adding up story points

Pete Smith December 12, 2019

Is there a way on the planning board of being able to multi-select stories and see a running total of story points that i have selected?

Not in the way you describe.  But you can allocate the stories to an single Epic, and then you can see the total estimate for the Epic on your Kanban/Scrum board.

I have also implemented a custom scripted field for "Total Story Points" which displays on the Epic itself.

Thanks for the reply

Unfortunately when whoever set up this account before i started, they just use the epics to tag issues in to groups so the epics never close and are just used as colour coded tags on the planning page. Would be nice to control click on a number of stories and see the total. it tests my maths skills at the moment! haha

Yes unfortunately not possible.  Would it be possible to change the way Epics are used?  Ideally they should have defined start/end and be a collection of related stories.

As for Sprint planning, in the past I have done this via CSV extract and then manipulate in Excel...

Normally it isn't too much of an issue, it is just 1 of the teams is off shore and don't have an xmas break so i am running the next one as a 4 week sprint rather than 2 and it has just magnified the issue. Just wanted to check if i was missing something obvious before i undertook the pain!

@Pete Smithdo  you mean a backlog tab when saying a planning board? If yes, then you will see a running total of your estimates when dragging the sprint footer down.

No, i mean if i have 30 stories in a sprint, i know i need to only have 30 points for example, i need to keep manually moving them out until the overall sprint total is correct or add them up myself. We run multiple sprints at the same time in the same project and the way it was initially setup i can't just use the dragging thing
