Adding issues to components

I've just created some components on a project, and the field appears on issues, but it's not editable - on the ticket or via menus.
I have admin rights.
Any ideas?

This widget could not be displayed.

It sounds like the component field is not on the issue "edit" screen.

Go to the project admin and drill down through the "issue type screen scheme"


I got there but can't edit - think I need global admin permissions, rather than just project - need to wait for the overall admin's return from holiday, sadly.

Ah, yes, you do need to be a JIRA or System admin to edit screens.
