Hello,
I am attempting to add a workflow to a project that already has a workflow scheme with three workflows attributed to it. Currently, when I go to add a new workflow it removes the scheme that is already assigned to the project and that is not what I want to do. I want to keep the current scheme and add workflows to it.
Hi Phillip,
It sounds like you are trying to replace the scheme instead of editing the scheme.
Go to Settings > Issues > Workflow Schemes
Search for the Workflow Scheme and click on Edit
Click on the Add Workflow button and select Add Existing
Select the workflow you want to add and then click Next
Click on the issue types that will use this new workflow. Note - an issue type can only be associated with a single workflow.
Then click Finish
Finally, you will need to click the Publish button to put the edited scheme with the new workflow into production.
John -
Thank you for your reply. I followed your steps and it removed the previous workflow schemes.
I believe your note "Note - an issue type can only be associated with a single workflow." helped me realize that instead of creating a new workflow and adding it to the current Workflow Scheme. I need to edit the workflow that is already associated with the issue type that I want to use my new workflow.
Thank you very much for your help!

Hello @Phillip Barbour
Welcome to the community.
Can you walk us through the steps you're executing to try to add the workflow to the workflow scheme?

Hi Trudy,
Happy to be a part of such a helpful community. I have been following the steps from this post - https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/configuring-workflow-schemes-938847421.html
However, it does not let me add the workflow to the scheme because there is already a scheme attributed to the project, I hope that I am being clear on that point. I want to add additional workflow to a scheme that is already attributed to a project.
Thanks for your help!

Hi Phillip,
First, let me point out that the document you are referencing is for Jira Server/Data Center, and your post is tagged as Jira Cloud. Which are you actually using?
Second, exactly which step are you at where you are seeing this behavior?
If you want to add a workflow to a workflow scheme already assigned to the project, then you need to modify only the Workflow Scheme. You do not need to modify anything in the project itself.

Trudy,
I am indeed using cloud, I was not aware the instructions were for Jira Server/Data Center - does that make these instructions invalid?
I am at the step where I need to attribute the workflow to a specific project, however this overrides the current Workflow Scheme. When I attempt to add my workflow to the Workflow Scheme, it tells me the new workflow is not attributed to this specific project, so I cannot add it to the existing Workflow Scheme.
Perhaps I am not explaining myself well, but whenever I attempt to edit the existing Workflow Scheme it does not let me add the new workflow because it is not specific to the project. Then, when I try to attribute the workflow to the specific project, it the replaces the current Workflow Scheme with the new workflow.
