Introduction

Creating Filters in Jira Cloud

Filters in Jira allow you to save search criteria for easy access later. Here's how to create a filter:

  1. Run a Search:

    • Click on “Issues” in the main menu bar.
    • Select “Search for issues.”
    • Choose between “Detail view” or “List view.”
  2. Define Your Criteria:

    • Use Jira Query Language (JQL) to specify your search parameters.
    • For example: project = "XYZ" AND assignee = currentUser() AND status = "Open"
  3. Save the Filter:

    • Click on the “Save as” button.
    • Give your filter a descriptive name.
  4. Share the Filter:

    • Open your saved filter.
    • Click on Details > Edit permissions.
    • Share it with relevant users or groups.

Using Quick Filters

Quick Filters are those nifty buttons at the top of your Jira board that let you customize which issues you're looking at:

  • Want to see only your tasks? Done.
  • Curious about what’s blocking your progress? You got it.

To create Quick Filters:

  1. Navigate to Your Board
  2. Configure Board
  3. Add Quick Filter

Creating Dashboards in Jira Cloud

Dashboards provide a visual representation of your project's data using various gadgets:

1.Create a Dashboard:

Go to the Dashboard tab in the top menu 
Click Create Dashboard button 
Set permissions (view/edit/private)

2. Add Gadgets:

Add gadgets like Two-Dimensional Filter Statistics gadget

Configure first one show work each team member has


Save JQL above as filter>Enter its name Saved Filter field>Select Status X-axis field>Assignee Y-axisfield

3. Configure Gadgets:

Customize gadgets display specific data subsets


Select desired gadget>Edit settings according preferences>Add necessary fields/filters 

4. Apply Filters Across Views:

Apply filters across different views such board,list calendar,timeline


Select Filter drop-down top-right chosen view>Apply quick filters other available filters simultaneously 

5. Dynamic Filtering with Rich Filters for Dashboards:

Rich Filters offer dynamic filtering capabilities fine-grained filtering individual values available different fields like assignee,status,label generating custom data views reports within one dashboard

6. Smart Filters & Columns :

Smart filters group issues configurable smart clauses based JQL smart columns include computed columns Rich Filter Results gadgets highlight information issues

7. Save New Filter Descriptive Name :

Save new filter giving another descriptive name Estimated over 4 hours keep big issues front center go back dashboard configure new filter appear Filter Results gadget select Estimated Over 4 Hours filter add Assignee field addition four default columns appear

8. Default Dashboard Configuration :

See all dashboards selecting Dashboards drop-down from application header reorder switch left right columns additional gadgets added some configured

9. Permissions Sharing Settings :

Check appropriate permissions view returned by ensure shared relevant users/groups open click Details>Edit permissions adjust needed so can access it

10. Quick Filters Activation : Quick Filters might hiding some from view check any activated deactivate temporarily see affect visibility

11. Backlog Feature Enabled : If enabled backlog feature check whether appearing there instead active boards navigate backlog screen missing

12. Epic Names Not Showing : If filtering based epics ensure epic names visible issue navigator verify column configuration included

13. Team Managed Project Settings : For team managed projects default display related without sub-filtering options review project settings no additional applied
