What can we learn?

in all types of Jira, statuses are classified into one of three categories: To Do, In Progress, or Done. The category names and colors are not customizable. The categories help visually communicate where issues are in their lifecycle.

Issues in a “To Do” status category are at the beginning of the workflow, issues in a “In Progress” status category are in the middle, and issues in a “Done” status category are towards the end.

Selecting Status Categories

When you create a status, it's important to associate it with the most logical category selection. Early workflow statuses like "Open" or "New" belong in the "To Do" category. Statuses in the middle of a workflow, like "In Development" or "Being Verified" belong in the "In Progress" category. Statuses at the end of a workflow, like "Closed" or "Done," belong in the "Done" category.

Take a look at your application’s status categories and make sure they make sense!

Querying By Status Category

End users can query for all issues in a specific status category. E.g., statusCategory = “To Do”

In the example, issues in the “Backlog” and “Selected for development” statuses are both returned because they are in the “To Do” status category.
