What can we learn?
As shown in the "Jira Image of the Day: Workflow Scheme Relationships" article, Jira projects only have one workflow scheme. The scheme can be shared with multiple projects. In the first diagram, all tasks and sub-tasks in the Legal, HR, and Marketing projects share the same scheme which has one workflow for all issue types.
Issue types can also have different workflows within multiple Jira projects. The second diagram shows that all tasks in the Legal, HR, and Marketing projects use one workflow and sub-tasks use a different workflow.
Schemes are very powerful but they can also become unmanageable. You probably don’t need a different workflow for each issue type. You definitely don’t need a different workflow for each issue type, in each Jira project.
Keep your settings simple, until there’s a real business need to introduce additional complexity.
