What can we learn?

To access key Jira features, use the application's top navigation bar. No matter where you are in Jira, you’ll always see this same menu at the top of the page.

Left Side - Items 1-4

The first icon on the left side is the application navigator. This icon looks like a grid. Click this icon to visit other Atlassian applications or internal tools. [Item 1]

The next item is a logo image. If you ever get lost, click the logo to return your Jira home page. [Item 2]

Tip: Select your personal home page by clicking your avatar icon on the top right and choosing either “Dashboard” or “Issue Navigator” under the heading “My Jira Home”.

Next, are the main navigation links like dashboards, projects, and issues. Use these menus to access all the different Jira resources. If you have additional apps installed, you’ll see a menu for them here too. [Item 3]

Next is the create button. Click this button to create a new issue. The project and issue type created last are automatically selected. [Item 4]

Right Side - Items 5-9

The first item on the right side is the quick search box. Type any issue key to go straight to that issue’s details page. Type any word or phrase to search through all issues. You can also type a project’s long name. [Item 5]

Next is the feedback icon. Use this feature to send comments to Atlassian. [Item 6]

Next is the help icon. Click it and look for the “Keyboard Shortcuts” option. Shortcuts help you quickly navigate and perform common actions. [Item 7]

For example:

  • type “c” to create a new issue,

  • type “i” to assign an issue to yourself,

  • or type “a” to assign an issue to someone else.

Next, if you’re a Jira application or project admin, you’ll see the settings icon. It looks like a “cog” or a “gear”. Click the icon to manage Jira application settings. [Item 8]

The last item on the right is the user avatar icon. Click it to manage your profile, additional settings, or logout. [Item 9]
