Early Access Program: A new Jira email notification customization experience

Hey everyone,

We're thrilled to share an opportunity to be the first to try out a new notification configuration experience to help you filter out those noisy Jira issue emails. We're looking for Jira Software Cloud admins to join our Early Access Program (EAP) and provide us feedback on our new feature.

 

What can I expect?

We will replace the current personal Jira email settings with a new, more granular set of email notification configurations which provides users with a higher level of control over the types of Jira issue email notifications they should receive. This change will be applied for all users of the selected instance.

The admin notification helper tool will be deprecated and Interactions vis APIs will not be supported during this EAP.

How do I sign up?

Note: If you’re not a Jira admin and you think this will benefit your team, speak with your admin to get involved.

If you qualify, we will reach out and invite you to a private community group for this EAP.

@Eric Dagenais Since this new experience required us to change the notification model, there may be some APIs for Notification interactions that won't be supported during this EAP. This would affect you if your instance is using a marketplace app that has Jira notification configuration support.

Hey @Haddon Fisher , sorry I'm not sure if I understand the question, what are you referring to when you say tiers in the context of this EAP? 

Unless Jira users have gone and configured their notification settings (shown in the preview above), they shouldn't receive any less email notifications than usual. Hence, we aren't expecting any significant impacts on a user's workflow unless they themselves have manually configured their settings to filter out any irrelevant emails.

Hi Eric Zheng by tiers I meant "the line items users can enable\disable". The screenshot shows that there will be quite a few, but not what those items actually are.

For context, if a user is supposed to receive notifications when an issue is created in their team's project, I would not want them to be able to disable receipt of that on their side.

@Haddon Fisher unfortunately we're not able to share a full definitive tier list at this time as it's subject to change, however, as it is right now, users won't be able to configure notifications for issue create events. I'd love to hear more about your feedback either through the EAP, or you can message me at ezheng@atlassian.com!

Is there a plan for any of this to turn into a daily digest of Jira ticket updates? I have a number of users who would STRONGLY prefer to have a Confluence style daily digest instead of choosing between all or nothing. 

Or is there any plan for Admins to be able to set the batch time for their instance so that I could set it for say, a 24 hour time period? 

 

(Also, it says I'm new here, but I've been using Jira for roughly 13 years at this point, and this has always been feedback that I've heard about Jira)

That's great feedback, thanks for sharing and voicing this @Shaunty, we hear you! We don't have plans to support the suggested ideas for this particular Early Access Program, however, we are aware of the need to address these other problems and we're actively looking to prioritise these over the coming months. Are ALL API interactions disabled or only those that deal with notifications? If it's only those that deal with notifications I am incredibly interested in joining.

Is there a way to test out this in sandbox instance?  Or only in production instance?  And how can I compare the difference between prior and new experience?
