Early Access: If you use Jenkins and Jira Software Cloud, you need to read this!

The Jira Software Cloud Team has been busy working on a simple, secure, and reliable way to integrate your build and deployment information from Jenkins with Jira Software Cloud. This means you don’t have to open up a port or hole in your firewall while still getting all the awesome benefits of seeing build & deployment information right on Jira issues.

We are running an early access program to collect feedback and make some improvements before making this feature open to everyone.

Automated tracking & visibility

Jira Software becomes truly powerful when it is connected to your favourite tools used throughout the software development lifecycle because it reduces the need to manually update Jira with the status of your work and gives additional visibility into where that work actually is.

With the new Jenkins integrations, you can…

  1. Gain visibility into when Jira issues, or specific features, have been released to your customers via deployments in Jenkins and what environment it was deployed to.
  2. Identify bottlenecks faster by viewing whether the latest build or deployment has failed.
  3. Navigate directly into a specific build or deployments within Jenkins for more details.
  4. Search across issues to look for issues with open pull requests and failing builds or what issues were deployed to a specific environment.

With Jenkins and Jira connected you’ll never have to ask “Hey, did we ship feature X to production yet?” again!

Security & Permissions

You can now securely communicate Jenkins data to Jira Software Cloud through the use of OAuth Credentials (2LO) that are tied to the Jira site and managed by your site administrators.

You just have to create a new Client ID and Secret, which is scoped to only allow build & deployment information to be sent to Jira. You then install the Jira Software Cloud plugin on your Jenkins server, paste the credentials in the configuration, and adjust your pipeline.

Sounds very good to me! Can we expect similar integration with Jira Software Server/Data Center?
